Abstract:

The paper deals with Russian prepositional constructions with POD ‘under’: spatial (traditionally considered to be basic) and temporal (traditionally considered to be derived according to the familiar formula TIME IS SPACE). It is argued that a straightforward space-time metaphor can nevertheless not account for temporal contexts.
