Abstract:

The paper discusses the use of the words kstati and nekstati in the works of Dostoevsky and some of his contemporaries. It is shown that the word kstati is used by Dostoevsky mainly to introduce new information. This feature is typical of Dostoevsky’s style and contrasts with the use of kstati in the works of L. N. Tolstoy, I. A. Goncharov, M. E. Saltykov-Shchedrin and I. S. Turgenev.
