On shop(p)ing, mini(-)van, and the enigmas of orthographic codification

This paper analyzes the spelling of foreign words codified in Russian dictionaries. The cases of discrepancy between the most frequent usage of loan words and their codification in dictionaries are discussed. Special attention is paid to linguistic criteria for orthographic decisions in disputable cases.
