Derivational semantics of русский in Russian dialects

The article discusses the semantics of words derived from Русь, русский in Russian dialects as well as the meaning of idioms that include these words. The composition and limits of the given etymological word family are analyzed, lines of semantic-pragmatic development (within the scope of the two basic sets of meanings – «spatial» and «social») are described, connections with other word families – both typological (with derivatives of words люди, мир, народ, свой, Москва) and contact (with word families of Proto-Slavic *brusiti ‘rub, peel’, *ru(d)s ‘red, light-colored’, *rǫka ‘arm’) are demonstrated.
