Пути развития архаических типов вокализма в южнорусских говорах

Abstract:

The archaic types of vocalism emerged as a result of a complicated evolutionary process. This process radically changed the system of dependence of pretonic vowels on stressed vowels: regular allophonic variation conditioned by phonetic law underwent a process of phonologization and then morphonologization. This development was initially motivated by the monophthongization of diphthongs and by the consequent process of the loss of the /ω/ — /о/ and / ѣ / — /е/oppositions.
