Abstract:
The article is devoted to the history of the specifically East Slavic pattern of imperfectivization with the -yva-/-iva- suffix. The material of Old Russian chronicles shows that the Russian imperfective suffix -yva-/-iva- was already quite productive in the 12th and 13th centuries in the Kievian, South Western, and North Eastern dialect areas.
