Abstract:

The article examines the epistles of Novgorod Archbishop Gennady as a linguistic source. The analysis of vocabulary and phraseology in comparison with data from historical dictionaries has revealed new data for studying the vocabulary of the Old Russian language. The work describes units that have not been recorded in historical dictionaries, provides previously unmarked meanings for some words and stable combinations, and also indicates earlier recordings of use for the number of units. The obtained information confirms the significance of the epistles of the Novgorod Archbishop as a linguistic source and can be applied in lexicographic practice.
