Abstract:

This paper offers a case study of the noun продажа ‘sale’ (labeled no plural in Ushakov 1935–40), which confirms that the last decade of the twentieth century saw a crucial change in the development of Russian abstract noun number paradigms. The influence of English as a factor underlying this change is discussed. Being one of the “key words of the era”, the noun продажа seems to represent a more general trend toward the replenishment of former singularia tantum number paradigms in modern Russian.
